(Im)perfect Future opens with a short video-clip, which presents the setting: in 2099 the World is destroyed by climate change and by its consequences (floods, drought, famine, war, pollution...). A small group of scientists has decided to struggle against this situation. The player chooses his/her character (customizing it) and is introduced to the story speaking with the rebel scientists, who explain him/her the way in which the game will go on. Indeed the researchers have invented a “time machine”, able to bring a volunteer (the player) in an era in which it is still possible to act to change the future of the Earth and of the humanity (that is our present). The avatar will not arrive to the past in his/her material shape, but in the shape of a “time ghost”; he/she will not be viewable for the NPC (Non-Player Character: in a game is any character that is not directly controlled by a player) which will act in each game level. The avatar will be able to interact only by acting on the environment (moving objects or making them fall, switching different kinds of tools on or off etc.) and by “possessing” people in order to make them more empathic. He/she will be able to make a call to the future. In this case one of the scientists will answer to the call and will give suggestions on the objectives of the level and the ways to achieve them. The purpose of the game is to make the NPC aware of the environmental problems, of possible actions, and of the alternatives to change the future of the Planet, thanks to the actions of the avatar. In this way, therefore, players will be also able to internalize more respectful and more correct behaviours.
